This health and safety course is designed to help you classify hazardous areas in a variety of settings, including various process industries, production factories and oil and gas facilities. We outline the terminology used for hazardous area classification and describe the appropriate protective measures for every piece of equipment used or installed in a hazardous zone. The course discusses the different zone classifications for hazardous areas, the reasons for classifying dangerous areas and the number of releases of hazardous materials that differentiate each organised zone.

We pay special attention to the temperature classes of gases and explain how to manage a classified hazardous area. We define the terms associated with hazardous area classification to provide you with a full understanding of the topic. We show you how each hazardous zone has its own specific requirements for every piece of equipment, particularly electrical equipment, that must be met before they can be installed.

This health and safety course also covers topics such as temperature classes for gas groups, ignition sources and control, equipment protection, ingress protection (IP) and more. We lay out the different types of ‘Ex-Protection’ (explosion protection) for equipment used in hazardous areas and ATEX markings (‘ATEX refers to ‘Atmospheres Explosibles’ in European Union regulations). We explain the meanings behind the details found on the ATEX nameplate of equipment. Mastering hazardous area classification and health and safety measures adds a valuable element to your engineering portfolio. Sign up to learn how to protect personnel and equipment from the risks associated with hazardous materials and processes.
